AI workforce development at MGCCC was the central theme as Dr. Kollin Napier, Director of the Mississippi Artificial Intelligence Network (MAIN), joined Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College’s Excelerate in STEM Scholars at the annual summit.
During the event, Dr. Napier participated in a professional panel with MGCCC administrators and faculty. He also met one on one with students to discuss career pathways, emerging opportunities, and practical ways to prepare for the future of work.
AI Workforce Development at MGCCC
Dr. Napier emphasized that artificial intelligence is not limited to one career track. Instead, AI is becoming a capability layer across every field, including healthcare, education, advanced manufacturing, public service, cybersecurity, and business operations. As a result, students who understand how to use AI responsibly can strengthen almost any profession they enter.
His message to the Excelerate in STEM Scholars was clear: adaptability is the ultimate competitive advantage. Technical skills matter, but so do communication, judgment, curiosity, and the ability to keep learning as tools change.
Preparing Mississippi STEM Students
The summit highlighted how MGCCC is helping students build confidence, leadership skills, and stronger STEM identities. In addition, the event gave students direct access to professionals who could help them connect classroom learning to real workforce needs.
MAIN’s broader work supports this same goal through free AI courses, statewide educator training, and the AI Workforce Readiness Council. Together, these efforts help align Mississippi’s education and workforce systems around practical AI literacy.
Why It Matters
AI workforce development at MGCCC matters because Mississippi students need both technical preparation and real career context. Events like the Excelerate in STEM Summit help students see how AI can support their goals while keeping human judgment at the center.
Thank you to the MGCCC faculty and staff who coordinated the summit, and to the students whose engagement and thoughtful questions made the conversations meaningful. Learn more about the MGCCC Excelerate in STEM Scholarship.
