The Mississippi AI Regulation Task Force convened at the Capitol on December 12, 2025. At nearly the same moment, the White House issued a new federal Executive Order on artificial intelligence. The timing underscored how rapidly the AI landscape is evolving and why Mississippi’s coordinated response matters.

The discussion centered on how AI already drives progress across telecommunications, manufacturing, agriculture, and engineering. These were not abstract concepts. They were real-world deployments improving productivity, competitiveness, and economic growth across Mississippi.

Dr. Kollin Napier, Director of the Mississippi Artificial Intelligence Network (MAIN), participated in the discussion. He emphasized the importance of keeping Mississippi a place where innovation can thrive. Dr. Napier noted that policy and education must advance together to prepare Mississippians for the AI-driven economy ahead.

Through MAIN, Mississippi is educating and preparing its workforce and educators to use AI responsibly and effectively. Programs actively support communities statewide as policy conversations continue to develop at the state and national levels. MAIN’s free, accessible training equips Mississippians with the skills to stay ahead of rapid changes in technology and the workplace.

Dr. Napier represented MAIN as part of the Mississippi AI Regulation Task Force. The task force focuses on leveraging AI as a catalyst for progress, modernization, and long-term economic strength.

The meeting also included the opportunity to meet TracE. TracE is the newest Electronic Storage Detection K9 with the Mississippi Attorney General’s Office Cyber Crime Division. The encounter highlighted the intersection of technology, cybersecurity, and public safety.

The Mississippi AI Regulation Task Force is a key part of the state’s broader commitment to responsible AI development. MAIN supports this work by connecting state agencies, educational institutions, and industry partners. Learn more about MAIN’s AI policy resources and statewide initiatives.
