Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College (MGCCC) is thrilled to announce its participation in the Mississippi Artificial Intelligence Network (MAIN), the nation’s first statewide artificial intelligence (AI) initiative. Created in partnership with AccelerateMS, Intel, and Dell, MAIN aims to meet the growing demand for AI skills in Mississippi’s workforce. As part of this initiative, MGCCC invites employees to take AI courses in a “Train the Trainer” format.
The MGCCC AI Courses Through MAIN
Dr. Kollin Napier, an MGCCC employee and Director of MAIN, leads the courses. They include Intro to AI, AI for Manufacturing, and Intro to GenAI. MAIN developed them through Intel’s Digital Readiness AI for Workforce program. In addition, it adapted them for the Canvas platform.
“We are thrilled to offer MGCCC employees the opportunity to gain valuable insights into AI through these courses,” said Dr. Napier. “We are committed to empowering our employees with the skills and knowledge needed to excel in the digital economy.”
What the Courses Cover
The courses cover fundamental AI concepts, applications, and historical evolution. They also explore current trends, practical usage, hands-on activities, ethical considerations, and societal impacts. Notably, the courses use “no-code” tools and require no prerequisites. As a result, they are accessible to people without programming skills or a computer science background.
“Empowering our employees with AI skills enhances their professional growth, fuels innovation, and propels Mississippi’s economic development,” added Dr. Napier.
Availability and Access
MAIN launched in partnership with all 15 community colleges and several major universities in Mississippi. The Intro to AI course first launched in Spring 2024 to a select audience. Each partner institution hosts a dedicated instance on its platform. Beginning July 1, 2024, all MGCCC employees and the broader workforce can access this course, along with AI for Manufacturing and Intro to GenAI. Finally, MAIN will add more courses to Canvas throughout the year.
This initiative underscores MGCCC’s commitment to high-quality education and training. It helps employees stay at the forefront of technology. As a result, they can meet the evolving needs of the workforce.
