The Mississippi Artificial Intelligence Network (MAIN) is proud to share news from a major statewide AI event. The Mississippi Department of Information Technology Services (ITS) hosted the AI Innovation Hub use case final presentations on April 20, 2026. The event focused on the Mississippi Secretary of State’s Office. Student teams from The University of Southern Mississippi and Mississippi State University presented proof-of-concept AI solutions. Each team built its solution in response to real challenges from the Secretary of State’s Office.

A Statewide Partnership Driving Practical AI Adoption

The AI Innovation Hub is a joint effort of ITS, MAIN, and Amazon Web Services (AWS). This partnership advances practical AI implementation across Mississippi. It connects state government, higher education, and industry around real-world use cases.

MAIN is Mississippi’s statewide coordinated AI initiative and the first of its kind in the nation. MAIN helps build and support this work alongside ITS and AWS. Together, these organizations help state agencies explore AI. The goal is to address operational challenges in a responsible, thoughtful way.

Student Teams Tackle Real Public Sector Challenges

Student teams from The University of Southern Mississippi and Mississippi State University worked directly on real use cases. The Mississippi Secretary of State’s Office supplied each use case. Each team then developed a proof-of-concept solution. These solutions show how AI can address practical public sector needs.

The students also gained valuable experience beyond technical skills. They worked with state agency stakeholders, defined project scope, and presented solutions to government and industry leaders. As a result, the AI Innovation Hub produces meaningful proof-of-concept work. It also helps shape the next generation of Mississippi AI talent.

Recognizing the Students, Faculty, and Partners

MAIN thanks the student teams for their hard work. We also thank their faculty advisors for guidance and support. Finally, we thank the ITS and AWS representatives who helped lead this effort. Their collective commitment made these final presentations possible.

We also appreciate the Mississippi Secretary of State’s Office for contributing real use cases. That partnership gave students a powerful opportunity. They applied AI to challenges that matter to Mississippi residents and the agencies serving them.

Why This Matters for Mississippi

Artificial intelligence is already reshaping how governments, industries, and institutions operate. Because of that, Mississippi has a clear opportunity to lead. The path forward runs through practical adoption, workforce development, and cross-sector collaboration. The AI Innovation Hub shows how the state is turning that opportunity into action.

This is exactly the kind of statewide AI collaboration MAIN continues to build. MAIN partners with ITS, AWS, and others to make it happen. The AI Innovation Hub connects education, government, and industry. It creates opportunities for students. It also helps agencies explore real-world AI use cases.
