A $7.1 million RESTORE Act grant to Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College supports the expansion of the Mississippi Artificial Intelligence Network and development of an initial artificial intelligence hub on the Gulf Coast, according to MGCCC.
What the RESTORE Act grant supports
MGCCC said the award would support statewide AI education, workforce training, technology infrastructure and industry collaboration. The planned Gulf Coast hub would provide hands-on training in fields that include artificial intelligence, cloud computing, data science and business intelligence.
The college described the first hub as a foundation for additional hubs across Mississippi. It also connected the project with work in manufacturing, healthcare, aerospace, defense, agriculture, maritime operations and disaster management.
How the investment fits MAIN’s statewide work
MAIN coordinates AI education, literacy and workforce training with Mississippi’s community colleges, universities and public and private organizations. A shared hub model can give partner institutions access to training and applied technology resources that would be difficult to build as isolated programs.
The MGCCC announcement also described a longer-term vision for an AI and cybersecurity corridor along the Gulf Coast, developed in coordination with the Mississippi Cyber Initiative. The grant announcement established the initial funding direction; it did not report completed hubs or workforce outcomes.
