The May 2026 newsletter from the Mississippi Artificial Intelligence Network (MAIN) brings together April’s research visits, public-sector workshops, and education resources. The issue shows how statewide AI planning connected with specific work in laboratories, government offices, manufacturing, and classrooms.

Research capacity meets workplace practice
During MAIN’s April 22 visit to the U.S. Army Engineer Research and Development Center in Vicksburg, Dr. Kollin Napier and Wayne Francis toured high-performance computing facilities and joined technical discussions on robotics, sensing, autonomy, and applied AI research.
The Microsoft Copilot workshop for Mississippi Development Authority and state government staff addressed everyday professional tasks. The session covered prompt strategy, Microsoft 365 applications, data considerations, tool limitations, and human oversight. Read together, the two reports connect advanced computing research with the judgment employees need when using an AI assistant.
Student projects and industry questions
The newsletter also records April 20 AI Innovation Hub presentations by teams from The University of Southern Mississippi and Mississippi State University. Students developed proof-of-concept solutions for challenges supplied by the Mississippi Secretary of State’s Office. The report describes project development and presentations, without establishing that the prototypes entered production.
Manufacturing and tourism appear elsewhere in the issue. Wayne Francis discussed predictive maintenance, automation, quality inspection, and workforce development on a manufacturing panel in Canton. Napier’s tourism session addressed AI policy, digital presence, and responsible use.
A framework for education and workforce planning
May’s issue introduces the Mississippi Statewide AI Framework and its learning progression for education and workforce alignment. The AI Workforce Readiness Council page now identifies the August 2026 edition as the successor to the April edition featured in this period. Organizations using the framework for planning should consult that current edition.
The PDF preserves course notices, NVIDIA learning resources, and policy templates for K-12 and higher education. Its June 15, 2026 course deadline has passed.
