The August 2026 newsletter from the Mississippi Artificial Intelligence Network (MAIN) records a month of leadership, training, policy, and industry work across Mississippi. A new role for statewide AI work
The issue opens with Dr. Kollin Napier’s appointment as MAIN’s Chief Artificial Intelligence Officer. MAIN announced that he would lead statewide AI strategy and help establish a physical AI Hub beginning on the Gulf Coast. The newsletter places the appointment alongside policy, workforce, and technical resources released during July.
Training expanded in August
Three courses were new when the issue was produced: AI for Cybersecurity, Claude: Real-World AI for Everyone, and ChatGPT Foundations for Teachers. They joined MAIN courses in generative AI, manufacturing, healthcare, business, and K-12 education, along with industry offerings from Microsoft and Google.
The catalog has continued to change since August. Readers should use the current MAIN course page for available courses, enrollment steps, credentials, and educator continuing education credit.
Resources for manufacturers and finance teams
The Manufacturing AI Playbook is the issue’s featured resource. It helps a team choose a use case, run a controlled 30-day pilot, protect information, review outputs, and train employees. Its five starting areas are operations, quality, maintenance, supply chain, and workforce.
Finance readers can pair MAIN’s AI policy template for finance with 100 beginner AI prompts for finance professionals. The template addresses data, models, fraud, vendors, human review, and regulated activities. The prompt library covers ten work categories, including budgeting, accounting, and treasury.
What the issue preserves from July
The newsletter provides a compact record of several July activities. Seven panels and 20 speakers testified during the AIR Task Force’s data center hearings at the Mississippi State Capitol. Nearly 300 higher education professionals from more than 165 institutions registered for MAIN’s sessions at the SACSCOC Summer Institute. MAIN’s combined review captured 135 use-case entries from the two days.
MAIN also met business and civic leaders at Gautier City Hall on July 28 and spoke with the Jackson County Chamber’s Pascagoula Area Council about AI literacy and workforce readiness. The August 5 IBM webinar listed in the issue has ended. Current programs appear on the MAIN events page.
