Put the statewide framework to work
October’s lead story highlights the August 2026 update to Mississippi’s Statewide AI Framework. The revision adds a Mississippi legal and policy foundation, updates the learning progression, and includes four crosswalks and governance guidance.
For organizations working through their own AI decisions, the issue also points to policy and guidance templates for education, government, healthcare, business, finance, and nonprofit settings. These resources give teams a starting point for discussing access, responsibilities, and acceptable use.
Choose a training or career goal
Four courses featured as new in October address leadership, higher education, governance, and technical skills: AI Agent Skills for Leaders; AI-Powered Higher Education; Generative AI: Governance, Policy, and Emerging Regulation; and Machine Learning with Python.
MAIN’s current free AI training is online and self-paced, with enrollment open through June 30, 2027. Credentials and educator CEUs vary by offering; the course catalog explains the options and enrollment steps.
Readers exploring how those skills relate to work can visit AI Across Mississippi Careers. The expanded resource covers 56 careers in 17 sectors, with current and emerging AI uses for each.
Make cybersecurity part of AI adoption
For Cybersecurity Awareness Month, the newsletter groups resources that address both using AI for cybersecurity and managing risks when using AI. Readers can explore the Cybersecurity AI Playbook, AI in Cybersecurity training, a cybersecurity and privacy primer, policy templates, and the THESEUS lab.
The issue also revisits the Mississippi AI Regulation Task Force’s meeting at Camp Shelby, which examined AI-driven cyber threats.
Plan for October learning events
The newsletter lists two opportunities for higher education and technology leaders:
- MAIN AI Leadership Workshop: October 15, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., at The Mill at Mississippi State University, for IT, research, and academic leaders. View workshop information.
- MAIN x Apple: AI on Apple: October 22, from 1:30 to 2:45 p.m., online, for higher education IT and research leaders. View session information.
The issue also looks ahead to The MAIN Event on April 12-13, 2027, hosted by MAIN and presented by the C Spire Foundation.
Follow AI work across Mississippi
October’s coverage includes AI in Manufacturing Day, an applied AI project course for MGCCC students, and practical AI training for physical therapists.
Together, these accounts show how AI adoption raises different questions across workplaces and classrooms: choosing a useful task, protecting information, checking results, and keeping people responsible for decisions.
